A Ghagara Choli is a traditional Indian outfit, predominantly worn by women in various regions of India, particularly in Rajasthan and Gujarat. The costume consists of three main pieces: the Ghagara (skirt), the Choli (blouse), and the Dupatta (scarf).

The Ghagara is a long, flowing skirt that typically reaches the ankles. It is designed to be wide and flared, allowing for ease of movement. The skirt is often made from fabrics such as cotton, silk, georgette, and chiffon, with heavier fabrics like brocade used for more formal occasions. Richly adorned with embroidery, mirror work, sequins, beads, and zari (gold or silver thread), the Ghagara features traditional patterns and motifs, such as flowers, paisleys, and peacocks. Bright and vibrant colors are popular, often with contrasting borders, including hues like red, blue, green, yellow, and pink.

The Choli, a fitted blouse, complements the Ghagara. It can have various necklines and sleeve lengths, ranging from sleeveless to long sleeves. Similar to the Ghagara, the Choli is crafted from fabrics like cotton, silk, and brocade. It is often embellished to match the skirt, with embroidery, mirror work, and beadwork decorating the front, back, and sleeves. The Choli can feature various back designs, such as a deep back with tie-ups, a keyhole back, or a covered back.

The Dupatta is a long scarf, usually draped over the shoulders and made from light fabrics like chiffon, georgette, or net. It often features matching embellishments to the Ghagara and Choli, with intricate borders on the edges and scattered designs or patterns on the main body. The Dupatta can be draped in various styles, either over one shoulder, across the chest, or even over the head.

Accessories play a significant role in completing the Ghagara Choli ensemble. Traditional jewelry includes bangles, necklaces, earrings, nose rings, and maang tikka (forehead jewelry). The footwear often includes traditional shoes like Mojaris or Juttis, which are embroidered to match the outfit.

The Ghagara Choli is worn for various occasions, such as weddings, festivals like Navratri, where it is specifically popular, and other cultural celebrations. The combination of vibrant colors, intricate decorations, and elegant designs makes the Ghagara Choli a striking and beautiful traditional attire.
